Sweeny Todd

Ok,

So, vittoria0 came in this weekend and we watched Sweeny Todd w/Johnny Depp last night. I am kind of glad we didn't pay full price a the theatre for the movie but I am glad I got to see it. Except for Depp, Bonham-Carter, Rickman, Cohen and that guy who played Wormtail, all the actors were relative unknowns. Who knew Rickman had such a fine singing voice. Or Depp for that matter. Although I don't think I would care to own the movie I think I may have to purchase the soundtrack. I don't think Depp deserved the Best Actor nomination for this performace as it was Cap'n Jack's voice, Edward Scissorhands' hair and Gilbert Grape's depression in the role. Although he did channel some really scary anger a few times, mostly he was morose and preoccupied. The cartoony blood helped to lighten the mood a bit. Cinematography was good and so were the sets but I think many of them were green screened in.

Overall the weekend was good. Got my garden in yesterday with tomatoes, yellow peppers, okra and watermelon. For herbs this year i have basil, dill, parsley, oregano, mint, sage, chives, rosemary and a teeny leetle marjoram plant. also Feverfew but i am going to grow it for the daisy-like flowers. I am going to work a little bit on my front landscaping after work this week and plant some vinca and another hosta as most of the rest of the hostas did not come back this year.

On Thursday last my stepfather, Cliff Deuel passed away. I went to Florida over the weekend with my sisters to be with my mom. Paul and Annette are to be married on April 13 2008. Mom said not to come to the funeral but I wonder if I should go anyway.

From the newspaper:

Clifford "Pete" Deuel, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2008 at Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City, Fla. He was born on January 12, 1933 in Norwich, the son of the late J. Byron and Mabel (Lawton) Deuel. On January 15, 1956, he married Nancy Miller, who passed away on September 5, 2002. On September 24, 2005, he married Claire Lashway, who survives. Besides his wife, Claire, he is survived by his children, James Deuel and Lana Byrne, Oxford, David Deuel, Oxford, and Paul and Annette Deuel, Eustis, Fla.; and his stepchildren, Melissa Cheran, Nashville, Tenn., Michelle and Chad Swallows, Clarksville, Tenn., and DeMaris and Thomas Scarpelli, Chattanooga, Tenn.; his brother, Donald and Esther Deuel, New Port Richey, Fla.; his sister, Phyllis and Bruce Hemstrought, Tavares, Fla.; his grandchildren, Michael Deuel and Becky Winston, Norwich, Josh and Jenna Deuel, Norwich, Danielle Deuel, Rochester, Amy Deuel and Mike Knochemus, Smyrna, Jennifer Deuel, Albany, Stephanie Deuel, Canandaigua, De Anna, Alyssa and Nik Scarpelli, and Weston and William Swallows; his great-grandchildren, Kaydance Knochemus and Christopher Deuel; and his niece and nephews, Karen, Robert, Scott, Dan and Duane. Pete graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from GTE, having worked for Chenango & Unadilla Telephone Co. and Contel for a total of 27 years. He was a life member of Fort Hill Post #376 American Legion, Christy Rock Post VFW, and the Norwich Elks Club. He enjoyed bowling, golf, woodworking and collecting old guns.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. from the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Oxford, with the Rev. Ralph Osborne, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Oxford, officiating. Burial with full Military Honors by members of Fort Hill Post will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, on Thursday, April 17, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Assn. or the American Cancer Society.

I love it. I wish we all had a Carson Kressley in our lives. I wish i could call him on the phone when i am having a bad day and i know he would cheer me up. He is not nearly as catty with women as he was with the other QE guys.

He's fun.

Well i hope everyone out there in LJ land had a merry/happy/suitable winter holiday of choice.

i got a ViaMichelin in car nav system, some books, a movie (Blade Runner 4 disc new version) and some gift cards.

I am shipping my mom's gift today (yes its late) but there are 9 days of Christmas left so its ok. I suppose i could have sent her the traditional 3 French Hens but i think what i did get her will survive the trip better.

Remember, its 4 Calling Birds tomorrow. I suppose a phone call would suffice instead.

In sadder news, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benizir Bhutto was killed today in a suicide bombing run after a political rally.

This is a sad day for women and democracy all over the world.

Please remember her and what she stood for.

well, the tree is up and the lights are on. Only one trip for extra lights was required. We actually threw out a whole big box of "well-maybe-they'll-work-this-year" lights. Tired of futzing with them

We will be decorating the tree tonight and then ... more christmas cards.

woo hoo, BB went well.  I had lots of help from lots of friends both old and new and some people i had never seen before.  The Goat arrived on time and was much enjoyed.  No one got cut, burned or otherwise maimed but we have got to make Madrun some new skinny garb.  Saxondog and i were discussing on the way home that when she and her DH first moved to TN i helped her let out all her pre-baby garb.  Now we need to make her all new skinny stuff.  'Course she's always been a hott chick in my book.  Where was that Lesbian Army recruiting office again?  Anyway, thanks to everyone who came out and helped.  I hope you all enjoyed the food.  I have to check with Maysun to see when i am allowed to do the next one -snigger-.
